People’s Faire set to entertain for the 40th year
This year marks the 40th year for the Las Vegas People’s Faire, a daylong celebration of arts, crafts and entertainment. This year’s People’s Faire is set to take place on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Carnegie Park.
“We will have over 60 arts and crafts booths, as well as hot food vendors,” said People’s Faire organizer Susie Tsyitee. “The arts and crafts will be everything from handmade jewelry, to art, to weavings, to embroidery. A little bit of everything is included.”
The Faire will also feature live music and entertainment throughout the day, including traditional Folklórico dancing, a Taiko drum circle, and tours of the Carnegie Library.
“It’s a fascinating tour,” Tsyitee said. “(People) can find out a little bit about Andrew Carnegie and the libraries he built across the country, and the fact this is one of the very few that’s still a library.”
The library will also host a used book sale to benefit the Friends of Carnegie Library. Tsyitee said anyone looking for beautiful hardcover books is sure to find something they’ll love at the book sale.
A portion of the park will also feature booths from area nonprofit groups giving attendees a chance to learn more about the services these groups offer, and how they can help out. Organizers expect around 2,500 to 3,000 people to attend the one-day event and encourage everyone in the community to come join in the fun.
“It’s kind of like an annual family reunion,” Tsyitee said. “People who only see each other once in a while manage to bump into each other at the People’s Faire.”
