Drug charges filed in March traffic stop, investigation
A Las Vegas woman was charged last week with two counts of felony drug possession stemming from an investigation that began in mid-March.
Officers with the Las Vegas Police Department stopped an SUV driven by 37-year-old Natalie Otero in the 600 block of Socorro Street on March 16. During a search, police allege Otero had cocaine, fentanyl and other illegal pills on her, according to a criminal complaint filed in San Miguel Magistrate Court April 7.
LVPD officers arrested Otero on active arrest warrants and during a search located an uncapped syringe “tucked in” one of Otero’s socks, according to the complaint.
Inside her wallet, police located “several small squares of folded foil.” Police allege one piece of foil contained a “small blue pill with ‘M 30’ written on it,” which police suspected to be fentanyl disguised as an Oxycodone pill.
A second piece of foil containing pills with “M 30” imprinted on them was located in “a wool glove,” according to the complaint, and police located a quarter gram of crack cocaine in a third piece of foil.
Another piece of foil contained a “small yellow pill with ‘V 2530’ written on it,” according to the complaint. Police suspected the pill was clonazepam, a drug that is often used to prevent and control seizures; however, clonazepam requires a prescription and is sometimes used as a street drug.
One other pill, believed to be used for menstrual relief, was located inside a fourth piece of foil, and other unknown pills were located inside a “glass turtle knickknack,” according to the complaint.
Police also recovered several “plastic tubes/cylinders” believed to be used for narcotic consumption, according to the complaint, along with a glass pipe.
Following positive lab tests for cocaine, fentanyl and clonazepam, Otero was charged with two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance along with misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Otero was also cited for driving without insurance.
A summons to appear in court was sent to Otero on April 7. She is scheduled to appear in Magistrate Court on April 26 for a first appearance.
