Updated: Shooting near Storrie Lake claims life of 16-year-old girl

A shooting late Monday night killed a 16-year-old girl and sent two other teens to the hospital with gunshot wounds.

Adelina Tafoya, 16, of Las Vegas died as a result of injuries from a gunshot, according to New Mexico State Police.

Two other teens — a 16-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy — are being treated at a hospital for injuries. Their conditions are unknown, according to Lt. Mark Soriano with New Mexico State Police.

Around 11:45 p.m. Monday, State Police responded to an area near the entrance of Storrie Lake State Park on NM State Road 518 after receiving a report of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found the three teens with gunshot wounds. Soriano told the Optic that all three were initially taken to Alta Vista Regional Hospital in Las Vegas, but Tafoya died from her injuries.

The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau is investigating the shooting and State Police have asked that anyone with information about the shooting to contact NMSP at 505-425-6771.
