A Santa Fe woman accused of kidnapping a man at gunpoint in 2020 has been arrested for allegedly firing shots at a Pecos home with two people inside.

Officers with New Mexico State Police arrived at a home in Pecos around 5:30 p.m. Jan. 28 after someone reported hearing gunshots.

Residents of the trailer home identified the shooter as 46-year-old Jeanette L. Martinez and told police that Martinez was upset that a two-year relationship with the man living at the home had ended, according to an arrest affidavit filed in San Miguel Magistrate Court.

The couple said Martinez had been outside the home, threatening them with a black handgun, and that Martinez fired two rounds at the home before fleeing the area in a black Kia.

Residents in the area reported hearing up to two gunshots, and police investigators located one 9 mm shell casing outside the trailer.

Police attempted to locate Martinez at her home in Santa Fe, but were unable to make contact with her and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Martinez was arrested Sunday and booked into the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Center. She is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and negligent use of a deadly weapon.

During a Monday hearing in San Miguel Magistrate Court, Judge Christian Montaño set a cash-only bond of $5,000 for Martinez, citing that she’d previously failed to appear in court on three occasions, and that she has three open court cases in Santa Fe County, including charges of kidnapping a man at gunpoint.

In the case from December 2020, Martinez is charged with felony kidnapping, aggravated assault and bribery of a witness.

Around 8 p.m. Dec. 12, 2020, officers with the Santa Fe Police Department responded to a call at an apartment complex in Santa Fe about a man being taken at gunpoint. When police arrived, a woman said her boyfriend had been taken by force by Martinez, who the woman identified as the man’s former girlfriend, according to an affidavit filed in Santa Fe Magistrate Court in December 2020. The woman said Martinez was driving a black Kia.

Police stopped the Kia and arrested Martinez. The man told police that he and his current girlfriend had just returned from a store when Martinez approached them in the parking lot, put a gun to his head and forced him into the Kia, according to the affidavit.

Jury selection in the case is scheduled for June.

Martinez was still in custody at the Santa Fe jail as of this writing. She is scheduled to appear in San Miguel Magistrate Court on Feb. 15 for a preliminary hearing.
