An arrest warrant was issued last week for the woman accused of attempting to sneak drugs to her boyfriend inside the San Miguel County Detention Center.

Skye A. Sedillo, 22, was arrested outside SMCDC in August after police and corrections officers found her in a car with an envelope containing methamphetamine and heroin, according to court documents. Police allege Sedillo had arranged to have the drugs delivered to her boyfriend, Rodger A. Tait-Gomez, who is being held at SMCDC on several charges including first-degree murder.

Following her August arrest, Sedillo was placed on house arrest with a GPS ankle monitor, but last month, she petitioned the court to have the GPS monitor removed, telling the court she was unable to pay for the monitoring service. Judge Christian Montaño approved the removal of the monitor on Sept. 16.

Even with the GPS monitor removed, Sedillo was still on house arrest and was ordered to remain at the home of Tait-Gomez’s mother where she was staying. All other conditions of here release remained in place as well, Fourth Judicial District Attorney Richard Flores told the Optic in September.

An investigator with the DA’s office went to the home around 9 a.m. Oct. 6 to check on Sedillo, but Tait-Gomez’s mother told the investigator Sedillo wasn’t there and that she hadn’t been home since the previous evening.

Prosecutors filed a for an arrest warrant for Sedillo Oct. 16, and the court issued a warrant Oct. 20.

Tait-Gomez and Nico L. Barela have been charged in the July shooting death of 16-year-old Adelina Tafoya. Prosecutors allege Tait-Gomez and Barela killed Tafoya and shot two other teens near Storrie Lake State Park after they’d mistaken the car the teens were in for a vehicle driven by a rival drug dealer, according to affidavits filed in District Court.

SMCDC corrections officers allege Tait-Gomez and another inmate named Kevin DeHerrera called Sedillo and arranged for her to pick the methamphetamine and heroin up from a drug dealer, and then bring it to the jail. Sedillo was supposed to give the package to a corrections officer who the trio believed would sneak the package inside the jail for a cash payment, according to court records.

Instead, the corrections officer informed Las Vegas police of the attempt to smuggle contraband into the jail and Sedillo was arrested outside the facility with the package containing drugs, injection needles, a lighter and cigarettes, according to court records.

The fatal shooting happened July 6. Barela was arrested July 24, and Tait-Gomez was arrested at his mother’s home July 28 following a hours-long standoff with police.

Tait-Gomez and Barela fired multiple shots at the car carrying six teens ranging in age from 14 to 17, according to affidavits filed in Magistrate Court. Tafoya was killed; two other teens were shot.

Both Barela and Tait-Gomez are charged with first-degree murder, three counts aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, shooting at or from a motor vehicle, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit aggravated battery. Barela is also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The DA’s office has successfully petitioned the court to have Tait-Gomez and Barela held in jail until trial, but trial dates have not been scheduled.

Sedillo has been charged with two counts trafficking controlled substances, two counts conspiracy to commit trafficking, one count of bringing contraband into a jail and one count of conspiracy to bring contraband into a jail.

District Attorney Flores told the Optic his office is likely to file new charges against Sedillo for violating the conditions of her release, and that those charges could include felony escape.

Sedillo is still scheduled to appear in Magistrate Court Nov. 12.
