Police in Mora caught up with a wanted man late last month, 18 days after a warrant for his arrest was issued.

Amadeo “Fred” Pino, 52, of Buena Vista, was booked into the San Miguel County Detention Center Dec. 23, 2019 on multiple felony charges, including burglary, assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Weeks earlier, on Dec. 5, 2019, New Mexico State Police were called to a rural home near the border of Mora and Taos counties by a man who said that Pino had driven onto his property and fired three shots outside the home.

According to an affidavit for arrest filed in Mora Magistrate Court, the man told police that after firing the weapon, Pino “broke down” the door to his home and “slapped him while wearing a wet leather glove,” and then threatened him with a handgun equipped with a laser sight.

Pino allegedly pointed the gun at the man and said, “You’re lucky I don’t f—— blast you.” Pino reportedly slapped the man once more, then left the area, according to court documents.

The man told police Pino was upset because earlier in the day, he’d given Pino’s brother a ride, and when Pino’s brother started “cursing” at him, the man stopped along NM-518 and asked him to get out of the vehicle.

Pino was charged with aggravated burglary, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and for being a felon in possession of a firearm because he has previously been convicted of felony assault with a deadly weapon.

Police went to Pino’s residence in Buena Vista, but were unable to locate him, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Just before 10 p.m. Dec. 23, Pino was spotted driving along NM-518 in Mora by deputies with the Mora County Sheriff’s Office. According to a criminal complaint filed in Mora Magistrate Court, deputies initiated a traffic stop, and officers with NMSP arrived to assist. During a search of the vehicle, police located a .22-caliber handgun in the center console, wrapped in a handkerchief. Pino was charged with another count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, as well as a misdemeanor charge of driving while license revoked.

In 2012, Pino accepted a plea agreement in a case where he was charged with several counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Under the terms of the agreement, the charges were reduced to one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and that charge would have been dismissed following 36 months of probation; however, in August 2013, the court found that Pino had violated the terms of his probation, and in February 2014, Pino was convicted of a fifth DWI, a fourth-degree felony.

During a Dec. 24, 2019 hearing, bond for Pino was set at $25,000. Court documents cite an “extensive criminal history,” including aggravated battery, multiple DWI arrests, battery on a household member, resisting officers and possession of controlled substances. Pino remained in SMCDC as of this writing.
