Man faces heroin charges after being found unconscious
A man found unconscious behind the wheel of a car in the parking lot of a gas station was using heroin, according to police.
Las Vegas Police arrested George A. Sena, 33, of Las Vegas, on charges of felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, after an officer found Sena passed out at the Allsup’s on Mills Avenue and Hot Springs Boulevard around 1 a.m. on Nov. 18.
According to a statement of probable cause filed in San Miguel Magistrate Court, Sena was passed out in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that was not registered to him, leaning against the door with the window rolled down. At the time, the temperature was around 30 degrees Fahrenheit. Witnesses told police Sena had been in the vehicle for at least two hours.
When the officer approached, he spotted two syringes on Sena’s lap — one capped and one uncapped. Sena was unresponsive and appeared to be unconscious, but did respond to the officer following a sternum rub, a technique taught to first responders to awaken an unconscious person. However, according to police, Sena had difficulty staying awake.
During a search of Sena’s car, the officer located heroin on a spoon with burn marks and wrapped inside a piece of tinfoil. A field test of the substance on the spoon and in the foil tested positive for heroin.
Sena was transported to Alta Vista Regional Hospital for medical clearance before being booked into the San Miguel County Detention Center.
At a Nov. 19 hearing, Judge Christian Montaño set bond for Sena at $5,000, citing that he’s currently on probation and that he has an “extensive criminal history.” Sena has previously been convicted of aggravated assault, aggravated battery, battery against a household member and larceny.
During a Nov. 21 hearing to review Sena’s conditions of release, Judge Montaño reduced Sena’s bond to an unsecured bond and Sena was released from SMCDC.
Sena is being represented by public defender Chico Gallegos and is scheduled to appear in Magistrate Court Dec. 3 for a preliminary hearing.
