18-year-old WLV student arrested for supplying pot to other students
A West Las Vegas High School student is facing criminal charges after admitting to smoking marijuana at school with two other students, according to police.
Aubrey Bachicha, 18, was arrested Nov. 6 and booked into the San Miguel County Detention Center on charges of felony distribution of marijuana to a minor, felony contributing to the delinquency of a minor and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
According to a statement of probable cause filed in San Miguel County Magistrate Court, Las Vegas Police were called to West Las Vegas High School by the school’s principal after Bachicha and two juvenile students were removed from their classroom because school staff suspected they were under the influence of a drug.
Bachicha allowed school security to search her belongings, and according to police, she handed over marijuana, marijuana wax, a pipe and a lighter to security personnel.
A juvenile female student admitted to smoking pot with Bachicha and a juvenile male student, but according to police, the girl would not say where the three had smoked the marijuana. When police asked who brought the pot to school, the girl told police it belonged to Bachicha.
According to court documents, the male student was treated by the school’s nurse because staff members were concerned about his health. He was later treated by emergency medical technicians as well.
Bachicha told police she’d gotten the pot from her mother, and according to police, when Bachicha was informed that the male student was being treated by medical staff, she “began to brag,” saying, “He thought he could out-smoke me; I guess he couldn’t hang.” The officer asked Bachicha if she understood how serious the situation was, but according to police, Bachicha responded by saying, “Just take me to jail because I don’t want to hear my grandpa b—-.”
Citing no previous criminal history, Judge Melanie Rivera released Bachicha on her own recognizance at a Nov. 7 hearing.
She was ordered not to leave San Miguel County, but the judge did approve a request made by Bachicha to travel to Curry County to visit family.
Bachicha is being represented by public defender Tomas Benavidez, and she is scheduled to appear in Magistrate Court on Dec. 12 for a preliminary hearing.
