A Las Vegas man was arrested for breaking into a home and attacking two people inside. Four days later, the same man was convicted of felony battery in a separate case.

Marcos “Mark” L. Carrillo, 42, was booked into the San Miguel County Detention Center on July 4, following an incident at a home on New Mexico Ave. near Union Elementary School.

According to a statement of probable cause filed in San Miguel Magistrate Court, the evening of July 4, a woman told Las Vegas Police she was at home in bed when Carrillo kicked in the back door and attacked her roommate, Carrillo’s father.

According to police, Carrillo struck the woman several times when she attempted to break up the fight, and he broke windows and several other items inside the home.

The Optic first reported on Carrillo in September 2018 when he was arrested for hitting an LVPD officer with a two-by-four following a disturbance call in the 2300 block of North Gonzales Street.

In November 2018, Carrillo was arrested again and charged with felony battery upon a peace officer and criminal damage to property following a disturbance call near Jackson Street and Railroad Ave. According to documents filed in San Miguel Magistrate Court, Carrillo broke several windows at an apartment. After being arrested, Carrillo fought with officers, kicking them repeatedly.

On July 8, Carrillo was convicted of felony aggravated battery upon a peace officer for the September incident involving the two-by-four. He was given a three-year suspended sentence, with a total of five years supervised probation. The court also sentenced Carrillo using New Mexico’s habitual offender statute, citing three prior felony convictions. If Carrillo violates the terms of his probation, his parole could be revoked and he could have eight years added to his sentence.

Under the current terms of his probation, Carrillo is not allowed to possess or consume alcohol or illegal drugs, is prohibited from entering a liquor establishment and he must submit to random drug testing.

For the July 4 arrest, Carrillo faces a second-degree felony charge of aggravated burglary, and misdemeanor charges of criminal damage to property, aggravated battery with no great bodily harm and battery of a household member.

As of this writing, Carrillo remained in custody at SMCDC and was scheduled to appear in Magistrate Court at 10 a.m. on Aug. 8.
