Man arrested on battery, other charges
A 26-year-old Las Vegas man has been charged with two felonies and multiple other charges after an early-morning traffic crash, and, days later, a search of his jail cell.
Antonio Goke-Martinez was arrested by Las Vegas police in the early morning hours of Sept. 23 after a rollover crash at 12th Street and National Avenue.
According to an arrest affidavit, a Las Vegas Police officer witnessed a black truck block a lane of traffic just before a tan SUV crashed into it at about 12:45 a.m., causing the black truck to roll over onto its roof.
Police identified the driver of the SUV as Goke-Martinez and took him into custody on felony charges of aggravated battery (use of a deadly weapon), as well as misdemeanor charges of leaving the scene of an accident and criminal damage to property.
According to court filings, the driver of the truck told police the tan SUV had been stolen from his brother on or around Sept. 20, and that after seeing the SUV at the McDonald’s on Mills, he drove up to the SUV and spotted Goke-Martinez in the driver’s seat.
The driver of the truck then began chasing the SUV through the streets of Las Vegas, and when the SUV stopped on 12th Street, the driver of the truck called police. The driver of the truck told police Goke-Martinez attempted to hit his truck with the SUV multiple times before finally crashing into the truck and causing it to roll over.
Goke-Martinez was found walking beside the SUV. Inside the vehicle, police found Goke-Martinez’s possessions.
The SUV’s steering column was broken, and the vehicle had no key. Goke-Martinez was then booked into the San Miguel County Detention Center.
While in custody at SMCDC, on Sept. 28, new charges were filed after corrections officers conducted a random strip search of Goke-Martinez and located contraband later identified as Suboxone — an opioid. According to court filings, when corrections officers attempted to remove the contraband, Goke-Martinez took up a fighting stance “with his fists closed” and grabbed a corrections officer around the neck.
Goke-Martinez was charged with felony battery upon a peace officer and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance. Goke-Martinez has since been released on a $3,000 bond, and has been ordered to wear a GPS ankle monitor.
He is scheduled to appear in San Miguel Magistrate Court on Oct. 9.
