Mora man booked for January battery
When New Mexico State Police arrived at the Mora home of Wilfred Vigil in January of this year, officers found broken glass on the porch and a woman with bruising to her face. They did not find Vigil.
The woman, who lived with Vigil at the residence along County Road C003, told police Vigil had struck her in the face during a quarrel in the early morning hours of Jan. 18, then placed her in a chokehold. According to an arrest affidavit, when the victim made attempts to leave the home, Vigil tightened his grip on her neck.
The woman said she remained in a chokehold, unable to leave the residence, until Vigil fell asleep. She then freed herself and called police. The victim said once she called for help, Vigil left the area by walking up the mountain behind the residence.
When officers arrived, they observed the broken glass on the porch, along with “miscellaneous items, which appeared to be thrown around during the altercation,” according to an arrest affidavit. They also noted visible injuries to the woman, including a bruise above her left eye and abrasions on her neck.
On July 11, police caught up with Vigil and he was booked into the San Miguel County Detention Center on a charge of misdemeanor battery against a household member, and one charge of false imprisonment, a fourth-degree felony.
Bond for Vigil was set at $15,000, cash only. He is still in the San Miguel County Detention Center awaiting his next court appearance.
